History of Brinker

Brinker (opened 1988, cost $3.2 million) honors the memory of Maureen Connolly Brinker, "Little Mo", the first woman to win the Grand Slam tennis championship and the dominant force in women's tennis from 1951-54. She was one of only five Grand Slam winners in history - the youngest player and the first woman to win. Brinker (1934-69) and her family moved to Dallas in 1963, where her husband Norman started the Steak and Ale restaurant chain. The school was dedicated on November 20, 1988. In 2014, Brinker completed a $12 million total renovation that included adding a wing for K-2 grade levels. The mission was to increase the square footage of every classroom for maximizing instruction. The result has been a beautiful campus that is equipped with the most current technology for students and staff (including a Chromebook for every student).
